JONES COUNTY, Miss. (TCD) — A missing woman 32-year-old who walked away from a car accident last week was found deceased inside a trunk at a used car dealership.

According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, on Friday, June 7, at approximately 1 a.m., Samantha McCowan crashed her car into a Mississippi Power Company pole on Victory Road near Highway 184, causing power to go out in the area. Surveillance footage showed her leaving the crash site, but she could not be located after that.

The sheriff’s department utilized different methods in their search for McCowan, including canvassing the area and deploying drones. McCowan’s phone was found in her car, and the statement said she “was believed not to have any means of electronic communication when she left the crash scene on foot.”

WDAM-TV reports that on Monday, June 10, Jones County detectives reportedly discovered human remains at a used car lot on Highway 184, and the body was later positively identified as McCowan’s. The sheriff’s department said no foul play was suspected.

According to her obituary, she is survived by her parents, her “forever partner,” five children, three sisters, and many other extended family members.
