SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (TCN) — A 32-year-old man was arrested last week for allegedly shooting his wife and mother-in-law in the head, killing them.

On Friday, June 21, at 8:40 p.m., the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shooting in Cropper. When they arrived, they located an adult female deceased and a second adult female with critical injuries. The victim with life-threatening wounds was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators later arrested Michael Hunt on one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. Jail records show Hunt’s attempted murder charge was upgraded to murder because the second victim died.

According to WLKY-TV, Hunt’s mother-in-law, Heather “Beth” Simmons, was already dead by the time deputies arrived. Simmons’ daughter and Hunt’s wife, Emily Hunt, was still alive. She reportedly died Sunday, June 23.

Hunt reportedly told investigators he “had a job to take both females out.”

Hunt is in custody at the Shelby County Detention Center without bond.
