Jay Slater’s brother makes heartbreaking promise in tribute left near Tenerife search area

The family of the 19-year-old British tourist found dead in Tenerife have left heartfelt messages and floral arrangements close to the scene where his remains were discovered earlier this week.

Jay Slater, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was on holiday with friends when we went missing on the 17th June.

His body was found on Monday by members of a mountain rescue team from the Spanish Civil Guard who had been searching an area of rocky terrain near the village of Masca.

Following the news, Mr Slater’s brother Zak was one of relatives to honour the teenager with a written tribute.

On a notecard attached to a wrapped flowers, Zak wrote: “Love you little bro, never in a million years did I think I’d be doing this.

“I’ll look after Mum and Dad. Hope you’re partying up there with Grandad.

“Hope to see you again some day. Rest easy bro, I love you.”

Zak, alongside other members of Mr Slater’s close family, had previously made emotional public pleas for his brother’s safe return.

The Canary Islands High Court of Justice confirmed the body was that of Mr Slater using fingerprint identification checks.

The Spanish court said the injuries suffered by the British teenager were consistent with suffering a fall in a rocky area, though an investigation into his death will continue.

A large coordinated search effort involving local police forces, mountain resuce, international charities, family and friends was launched after Mr Slater was intially reported missing.

Searches involving helicopters, drones and specially trained dogs had failed to find the missing teen before his body was finally located close to where his phone was last traced.
