World War 3 fears have exploded after a leading Russian propagandist known as Vladimir Putin’s Iron Doll has warned that Ukraine’s invasion of Kursk could spark a nuclear war.

Olga Skabeyeva, one of the leading pro-Putin voices on Russian state TV, suggested Russia was prepared to unleash nuclear strikes if the incursion continued.

The latest nuclear sabre-rattling from Putin’s allies comes after Ukraine has seized more than 1,000 square kilometers of territory. Kyiv has also taken more than 90 Russian settlements in Kursk since invading two and a half weeks ago.

Ms Skabeyeva told concerned Russian viewers: “The depth of Ukraine‘s penetration into Russia has begun to cause discomfort. Therefore, I want to voice the following appeal: Ukrainians, not so deep. We are a nuclear power after all.”

Last week, the prominent presenter told Rossia-1 that the situation in Kursk was “complicated” but claimed it had backfired on the Ukrainians.

She said: “They have enraged Russians, and everyone now is ready to take up a weapon and make it clear that you cannot deal with Russia in this way.”

Earlier today, the Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, confirmed that Putin has signed off on a response to the Ukrainian incursion.

Mr Antonov said: “I tell you sincerely that the president has made a decision.

“I am firmly convinced that everyone will be severely punished for what has happened in Kursk region.”

The Kremlin leader held a meeting on Thursday with senior officials, including the governors of border regions.

During the video-call meeting, the Russian leader appeared to distance himself from the invasion, saying the “security issues” that had arisen in Kursk were “problems that are the responsibility of the security forces”.

Ukraine‘s lightning attack marks the biggest incursion into Russia by a foreign power since World War Two.

Lieutenant-General Ben Hodges, who was commander of US forces in Europe, described the Russian reaction to Kursk as “slow” and “chaotic”.

He told Times Radio: “You’ve got a mix of border guards, national guard, FSB, and regular army and local authorities, and it’s not clear who’s responsible. And of course, the reaction has been unsurprisingly somewhat chaotic.

“We’ve been underestimating Ukraine from the very beginning.”
