An Airbnb host shared the surprising rule she had to implement after a terrible experience with a guest left her with a hefty electricity bill.

Ashley, known as @built.with.class on TikTok, shared her ordeal with her 26,000 followers, claiming an individual who booked her accommodation for three weeks made the property’s charges skyrocket.

“The guest not only set up an electric vehicle station, which usually is expensive, it’s minimal. That guest also mined crypto,” she alleged.

Upon receiving a $1,500 bill (roughly £1,172) for the guest’s energy consumption, Ashley checked the security camera footage and found out that they “were bringing out 10 different computers”.

“It was cheaper for them to rent a house to pay for that electricity“, she said.

After this unfortunate experience, Ashley now lists a strict rule on her Airbnb listing that prohibits cryptocurrency mining and electric vehicle charging at their property, which she assumed would be common sense for guests.

The host also fought Airbnb to get paid back for the large bill, before eventually getting the guest to compensate for their energy consumption, which was no pressing concern for them.

“He was overly honest and he made over $100,000 in those three weeks so a $1,500 electric bill was nothing,” Ashley told her followers in the comments.

Fellow Airbnb hosts were quick to reply in support of Ashley.

“I also have in my rules no crypto mining. It’s ridiculous we have to do this”, one user commented.

Another said: “A guy told me that he does this with Airbnbs and was astonished he gets away with it.”
