KEARNS, Utah (TCN) — Two men have been sentenced for kidnapping a woman at gunpoint, driving her to a home, fatally shooting her, and dumping her remains along a road in 2021.
The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office announced July 25 that a judge sentenced Orlando Tobar to 30 years to life and Jorge Rafael Medina-Reyes to 15 years to life in connection with the death of Nicole Solorio-Romero. Both Tobar and Medina-Reyes pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and felony aggravated kidnapping.
According to prosecutors, on Feb. 6, 2021, Medina-Reyes and Tobar kidnapped Solorio-Romero from her home at gunpoint and drove her to a West Valley City residence, where Tobar forced her in at knifepoint. There were reportedly several other people at the house.
Prosecutors said Medina-Reyes shot Solario-Romero in the head before Tobar shot her a second time. The victim’s body was reportedly wrapped in plastic bags. According to the district attorney’s office, Tobar and another defendant, Cristian Morales, dumped Solario-Romero’s remains on the side of a road in Tooele County.
Prosecutors said another defendant also pleaded guilty in the case. Three others still face charges but haven’t been convicted.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill called the crimes “some of the worst I have seen in my 30 years as a prosecutor.”
