HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (TCN) — A 33-year-old woman was arrested this week after she allegedly drowned her young daughter following a “rough day.”

On Saturday, July 13, the Henderson Police Department received information that a child drowned in Drakes Creek near Sanders Ferry Road. Detectives went to the scene and concluded that the child’s mother, Brandi Elliott, killed her daughter. She was arrested and booked into the Sumner County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder.

According to court documents cited by WKRN-TV, Elliott wanted to leave her 7-year-old daughter at her apartment so she could have some time to herself “after having a rough day.” Her daughter, however, did not want to be alone, so she followed Elliott.

WKRN reports Elliott told police she pushed her daughter underwater “like a large mouth bass” until she started “bubbling.” Elliott removed the girl from the water and tried giving her CPR. The daughter was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m.
