SALISBURY, Md. (TCD) — State police recently arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting and killing his mother over the weekend.
According to a news release from Maryland State Police, on Sunday, May 5, at approximately 9 p.m., the Fruitland Police Department and emergency medical service personnel responded to a home on Sand Castle Boulevard, where they found 68-year-old Beatrice Gentry unresponsive in the bathtub. Officials pronounced her dead at the scene.
According to state police, officers met the victim’s husband upon their arrival. Fruitland Police requested assistance from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, and they identified Jeremy Gentry, the victim’s son, as the primary suspect.
State police obtained a warrant for Gentry’s arrest and took him into custody without incident on May 6. He faces charges of first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. Autopsy results to determine the victim’s cause and manner of death are pending.
Gentry remains held in the Wicomico County Detention Center as he awaits his bond hearing.
