HOUSTON (TCD) — Police recently arrested a 31-year-old man after he allegedly fatally shot his 45-year-old girlfriend and placed her body in a shallow grave.

According to the Houston Police Department, on April 22 at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers found Jennifer Ramirez’s body on Fuqua Street. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences positively identified the victim and determined she died from a gunshot wound.

Upon further investigation, police identified Derek Fischer as the primary suspect. KTRK-TV reports Fischer and the victim were reportedly dating when the suspect allegedly killed her.

On Saturday, April 27, detectives located Fischer, and officers with the Houston Police Department Northbelt Patrol Division booked him into the Harris County Jail on charges of murder and tampering with evidence. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.

According to KTRK, Fischer is also serving deferred adjudication for an unrelated family assault case.
