BURBANK, Calif. (TCD) — Police recently arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 57-year-old mother during a dispute in their home.

According to a news release from the Burbank Police Department, on Tuesday, May 7, at approximately 10 p.m., officers and paramedics responded to a home on North Avon Street, where they found Karyn Lombardo unconscious. Officials attempted lifesaving measures, but Lombardo was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the victim lived in the home with one of her adult children, Kyle Lombardo, as well as her husband.

Police identified Kyle Lombardo as the primary suspect in his mother’s death and arrested him on a charge of murder. Further investigation revealed Kyle Lombardo allegedly killed his mother “during an altercation in the family home.” Authorities did not release further details about how the victim died.

Lombardo’s bail was set at $2 million, and he was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, May 9.

The victim’s husband told KTLA-TV that the suspect struggles with mental health issues, and they’ve called police to their residence before.

Karyn Lombardo reportedly worked as a kindergarten teacher and had been employed at Bret Harte Elementary School for over three decades. She began her career in 1990 as a bilingual teacher. KTLA reports that she and her husband were married for 31 years and had two children.

In a statement, superintendent of the Burbank Unified School District John Paramo reportedly said, “Over the course of her highly accomplished career, Ms. Lombardo touched the lives of thousands of students, parents, and colleagues, who will be mourning this loss in the days to come. Her dedication, warmth, and passion for teaching touched many students and colleagues’ lives. Her profound impact and loss on this community will be deeply felt throughout the City of Burbank.”
